Kitten Space Agency Wiki:Rules
These are the rules for the Kitten Space Agency Wiki. Violating any of these rules may result in either a warning or temporary/permanent ban, depending on the circumstances. These rules are considered indefinitely subject to change. All enforcement is made at the discretion of the wiki administrators, even if the rule they enforce is not explicitly described here. Indie.io's terms of service apply at all times.
Users may contact an admin at any time to discuss the rules or ask for clarification.
These rules are fairly standard to what is used on other wikis.
Discipline
The process that administrations may generally take if any of the rules on this page are broken is explained here. It is a simple system which progresses from a polite unofficial warning to a permanent ban, depending on severity and recurrence of the action. The violation(s) will also be undone. Certain rules, however, will skip steps if broken.
- An unofficial warning - The user will be sent a kind message pointing out that they did something incorrect, and that's it. The violation will be fixed by an admin.
- An official warning - The user will be sent a kind message stating that they have been officially warned to stop their violation(s). It will explicitly state the warning is official.
- A temporary ban - The user will be temporarily banned from the wiki for a period of time reflective of the violation(s). They will also be sent a message.
- A permanent ban - The user will be permanently banned, and a message.
- If the user goes some time between violations, the stages will undo back to 2. However, certain violations result in an immediate ban, such as vandalism, harassment, spamming external site links, et cetera.
- Ban evasion may result in an IP block.
Conduct
- Be civil.
- Any harassment, insults, hate, and/or general rude and counterproductive behavior is strictly prohibited. This applies to edits, usernames, and even the KSA Wiki Discord.
- All forms of vandalism, spam, or otherwise disruptive and bad faith editing are not tolerated. Violators will be banned.
- Use talk pages appropriately.
- Talk pages are for discussion of their respective page only. Please keep all discussion of in-game mechanics to the social media platforms, the links to which are in the sidebar. An article's talk page is intended for discussion or questions regarding the article's content, not for casual conversation. Off-topic entries will be removed.
- Promotional content, self or not, is forbidden unless it is for specific examples and educational purposes.
- Community tools linked on the wiki must be free and remain free to remain included on the wiki.
- Registered users shall use a single account for all editing under most circumstances. "Sockpuppeting" is a serious offense. A second account can be used in certain rare circumstances by longtime established, trusted users. In such cases, it must be made absolutely clear that the accounts are operated by the same user. Some valid reasons to use a second account may include:
- Technical testing
- Bot (automated) accounts
- Administrators who want to use non-admin accounts in less secure editing situations.
Editing
This section is a brief overview of rules around editing etiquette and style. For more information, see the Manual of Style.
General
- Edit-warring is prohibited. If a user overwrites your change and you disagree, discuss it on the talk page of the page in question. In the case of an active dispute, the oldest version of an edit is preferred until a consensus is reached. Moving a page back and forth and un-deleting a page without permission is also considered edit warring.
- Assume good faith. Human error, being new to the community, or for any other honest reason fellow wiki community members must assume good faith. Users should approach situations like these with a helpful and understanding attitude rather than hostility. This is why unofficial warnings are given first.
- Refrain from using profanity unless used in a direct quote. Preferably, censor the curse with asterisks.
- Refrain from editing other users' user pages, unless it is to remove broken links.
- While the edits can be easily reverted if mistakes are made, please try to avoid creating unnecessary work for others.
- Properly cite edits referring to developer comments.
{{Cite web}}is available under the "Cite" dropdown on the editing toolbar. - Do not highlight user creations. User creations should be included for demonstration and educational purposes only, simply showing off vehicles or screenshots will be removed as they belong on other platforms.
- Pages with of notable importance or high amounts of transclusions will be protected. This is to protect against vandalism and to protect the servers from load caused by edits to these pages. Contact an admin if to discuss changing the content or protection status of such a page.
Page creation
- Work in progress pages of new content must be created in the author's userspace.
- Translated pages should use the English name with the language code appended to the end of the name. For example, "Kitten" when translated to German should be named "Kitten/de".
- Also see: Wiki.gg's translation guide.
- Page names should only be capitalized at the first word, with some exceptions. Failing to do this will result in the page's name being fixed.
- Translation of WIP pages or pages in someone's userspace is highly discouraged. While it is permitted, it is very likely to be wasted effort, as the page may never reach the public eye, or be finished.
- Pages may only be created in the user's userspace if they are meant to end up on the general wiki or otherwise relevant to the wiki (sandboxes, et cetera). If the page is not related to the wiki, it has to be related to KSA, and may not be linked from outside sources, including the wiki. Uploading files for a non-wiki-related page is not permitted and such files will be removed.
Requesting admin work
- Templates such as
{{Delete}},{{Move}}, and{{Merge}}may be placed on pages to request action be taken by administrators. Note that the request may be denied. - Admins may be contacted via their user talk page or on the KSA Wiki Discord.
Miscellaneous
- Any unused files are automatically under consideration for deletion. Ensure that any images uploaded are immediately used to avoid issues.
